The Back to School Slam is set for Saturday in the Nessmith-Lane Center from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This inaugural event inside the facility on the Georgia Southern campus centers around youth empowerment and connecting high school and college-aged students with resources to kick off the school year strong.

“The greatest self-reward of starting, is establishing and maintaining a Finisher’s Perspective. The only outcome is the finish strong,” said Kay Johnson, who is organizing the event.

The Back to School Slam, Johnson said, serves as a bridge between the community’s resources and students and families who need them.

To bridge the gap, four speakers will offer different perspectives on youth, success, and empowerment. The event also features giveaways, interactive breaks, spoken word, and a Q&A session to help students and their families build relationships with leaders in the community.

The event is open and free to the public. High school students, college freshman and sophomores, and their parents are encouraged to attend. For additional information, contact Johnson at (762) 383-3193.
