BA students get a first-hand lesson on drunk driving

Bulloch Academy senior Kaylee Dennard, 17, tries her hand at driving a golf cart through an obstacle course with a pair of "Drunk Busters" goggles. Capt. Luther Hires of the Governors Office of Highway Safety presented the program and rode in the cart with the students.

Bulloch Academy's prom is this weekend and school officials brought program on campus to emphasize the dangers, and possible consequences, of drinking and driving. Hires told students the story of how he lost his son 22 years ago because his son chose to drink and drive. "It's difficult to tell that story sometimes, but if it gets through to just one young person, it's worth sharing." Katherine Wellman coordinated the event and she is the Project SUCCESS counselor for Bulloch Academy.  Project SUCCESS is funded by the Grants to Reduce Alcohol Abuse, which provides prevention education and counseling for students in an effort to reduce underage drinking and drug use.
