The Averitt STARS will celebrate Mom this weekend in their final show of the season.
“I Remember Mama” will highlight Mother’s Day weekend and close the 2012-13 season for both the Averitt STARS and the Averitt Center for the Arts.
Directed by Austin Bolay, the play tells the story of the Hanson family and its core beliefs in a good education and hard work.
Showtimes are Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 2 and 7:30 p.m.
Starring Dani McGee as daughter Katrin who reads from her autobiography, the play reveals the Hanson family dynamics. With four children, life isn’t always easy, but the family pulls together and makes sacrifices for one another. Featuring Mikelle Calhoun and Stan Haselton as Mama and Papa, they teach their children to be careful with their pennies and always have a generous heart.
The audience will follow the family as its members embark on major life events, such as engagements and job opportunities. Audience members might even find themselves and their families in these classic characters.
During the show, the Averitt Center will also have on display its newest exhibition in the Main Gallery, “Mother’s Work: Textiles from Public and Private Collections.” The collection features embroidery, cut-work, tatting, and crochet while celebrating the creativity and passion of mothers.
Also, the Averitt Center will host a flower show by the same name as the play, “I Remember Mama.” Hours for the flower show, presented by the Bulloch Council of Garden Clubs, are 2-9 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
