Statesboro police identified and located an armed robbery suspect Wednesday who they said targeted a customer at a local convenience store earlier this month.

The victim was robbed at gunpoint Aug. 1 at Enmarket on Northside Drive West, said Statesboro police Community Information Specialist Madison Warren.

Statesboro police Detective Tommy Brown’s “investigative work” led to the offender being identified as Matthew Alonzo Lambert of Effingham Highway in Sylvania, she said.

The victim told police he walked into the store, bought an alcoholic beverage and left to be confronted by the man later identified as Lambert, who held a gun and took an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then fled in a dark-colored sedan, she said.

The victim was not injured.

Brown issued warrants for Lambert, 29, who was arrested in Screven County and transported to the Bulloch County Jail on charges of armed robbery.

He remains without bond, awaiting further court appearances.
