Rotary clubs honor local ag businessman

One of the most prominent figures in Bulloch County’s agricultural history was honored Thursday morning as the Rotary Club of Statesboro and Rotary Club of Downtown Statesboro named Raybon Anderson the 2011 Citizen of the Year.As he took the stage upon learning of the honor, Anderson said “I’m honored, I’m humbled, I don’t know that I’m worthy.” The two clubs join together to present the award. The breakfast meeting and award presentation was held at Forest Heights Country Club.Former Statesboro mayor and Rotary member Bill Hatcher introduced Anderson by revealing tidbits about the recipient before eventually divulging his identity.“He is someone we all know, love and respect,” he began. “… He truly lives the Rotary motto, ‘Service above self.’”Hatcher shared that Anderson “lived his entire life in Bulloch County,” went to school in Nevils and later at Southeast Bulloch High School.
