Mr. and Mrs. John H. Shumate III of Statesboro announce the engagement of their daughter, Scarlet Gabrielle Shumate of Statesboro, to Emilio Quintero Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Mock and Emilio Quintero Sr.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of John and Cora Francis of Statesboro and John H. Shumate II and Mildred N. Ellis of St. Simons Island. Scarlet is currently a junior at Georgia Southern University in the athletic training program and is an instructor at Sacred Space Yoga Studio. She is a member of New Covenant Church in Statesboro and active in mission work.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Jose B. and Victoria Palomares Sr. and Ramon and Maria Quintero Sr. and Charles F. Mock and Sue Mock. Emilio is a junior at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega, where he is studying criminal justice. He is a member of the Georgia Army National Guard and is also a member of New Covenant Church.

The couple is planning to wed in May 2019 at The Oak Room.
