Sara Elizabeth Johnston of St. Simons Island and William John Healy of Statesboro were united in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony at a Nuptial Mass celebrated on May 22, 2010, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church in Augusta.
The bride is the daughter of Barry and Louise Johnston of St. Simons. She is the granddaughter of Marion Johnston and the late Charles "Lee" Johnston Jr. of Baltimore and the late Caroline and Anthony Podraza of Hazelton, Pennsylvania. The groom is the son of Steve and Lue Healy of Statesboro. He is the grandson of the late Polly and William H. Smith Jr. of Statesboro and the late Joe and Cecilia Healy of Cascade, Iowa.
The Rev. Mark Van Alstine was the celebrant of the mass. Mr. Alvin Blount of Augusta, organist, and Dr. William and Mrs. Alice Schmid, friends and former trumpet instructors of the groom, provided music for the mass.
Escorted by her father, Sara wore a strapless satin gown with a fitted bodice and an A-line skirt that flared into a full sweeping scalloped-lace hemline trailing into a chapel train. Her gown was enhanced by re-embroidered lace medallions accentuated with pearls. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of white roses and spring flowers.
Sara chose her sister, Megan Johnston of Brooklyn, N.Y., as her maid of honor. Serving as bridesmaids were Laura Healy of Charlottesville, Va., sister of the groom; Leigh H. Healy of New Bern N.C., sister-in-law of the groom; Jana Dopson Illston of Augusta and Kathryn Schiliro of Athens.
The bridal attendants wore strapless empire dresses of black-plum tissue voile embellished at the the tea-length hemline with multiple rows of tucking. They carried hand-tied bouquets of pink roses mixed with spring flowers.
Serving as flower girls were Mary Mitchell Lester, daughter of Jimmy and Mary Lucy Lester; and Susanna MacKenna, daughter of Rob and Susan Anne MacKenna, both of Atlanta and cousins of the groom. They wore coronets of baby's breath and creamy white hand-made gowns featuring lace and ribbon inserts accentuated by self-ruffles.
Will chose his father, Steve Healy of Statesboro, as his best man. Groomsmen included Joe Healy of New Bern, N.C., brother of the groom; Adam Martin and Matthew Rogers, both of Statesboro; Brett Covington of Knoxville, Tenn., and Jon Graham of Elkin, N.C.
Lectors (readers) for the mass included Heather Johnston of Brooklyn, Robyn Barberry of Aberdeen, Maryland, and Julie Anderson of Baltimore, all cousins of the bride; and Caroline Patterson of New York City.
Eucharistic ministers were Joanne Anderson of Bethany, Del., and Jean Novitsky of Wheaton, Ill., both aunts of the bride; and Joan Healy-Hauser of Minneapolis, aunt of the groom.
To honor the memory of their beloved grandparents, Sara wore the pearl earrings and necklace of her late grandmother, Caroline Podraza, and carried the rosary of her late grandfather, Anthony Podraza.
The couple departed from both the wedding and the reception in Will's late grandmother Polly Smith's last car, chauffeured by classmate and friend, Yoski Nomura.
A reception was held following the ceremony at Marbury Center in downtown Augusta. A local reception, held on June 5th at the home of the groom's parents, was hosted by family and friends.
    They honeymooned in Mexico.
Since graduating together from the Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine in May, they are making their home in Columbus, Ohio, where they have begun their medical residencies at The Ohio State University Medical Center.
