Mr. and Mrs. Mark Bird of Register, Ga., announce the engagement of their daughter, Hillary Brooke Bird, to Joshua Charles Blaxton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Blaxton of Ailey, Ga.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Paula Bird and the late Walter Bird and the late Harry Ray Stephens, all of Statesboro. She is the great-granddaughter of the late Lillie Akins Stephens of Statesboro. Hillary is a 2011 graduate of Pinewood Christian Academy. She earned her Bachelor of Science in both chemistry and biology from Georgia Southern University. Hillary will be enrolled this fall at Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, Ga., where she will be pursuing her doctor of medicine (MD) degree.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Bobby T. and Emma Jean Moore of Ailey and the late E.F. "Pete" and Virginia Blaxton of Vidalia, Ga. Joshua is a 2008 graduate of Montgomery County High School. He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology at Georgia Southern University. Joshua is currently employed as a polymerization supervisor at SNF Holding Company in Riceboro, Ga.

The couple will wed on June 25, 2016, at Pittman Park United Methodist Church.
