Statesboro High School’s Science Quiz Bowl Teams competed at the regional level Jan. 28, at Armstrong Atlantic University in Savannah, where two of the three teams qualified to advance to state. This makes the tenth year in a row that a SHS team has advanced to the state competition.
“This is the first time though that two teams are going to state,” said Bulloch County Teacher of the Year and SHS Science Teacher Richard McCombs, who advises the teams. “This is also the first time that a team of all freshmen has received an invitation.”
Science Quiz Bowl events are fast-paced, competitive tournaments.  Student teams compete verbally to solve practical problems in either short answer or multiple choice form.  Students must be prepared to answer questions in all branches of science and math including biology, earth and space, energy, physics, astronomy, mathematics, and chemistry.
The teams will now prepare for the state level competition that will be held again in Savannah at Armstrong Atlantic Uni-versity Saturday, Feb. 25.
