If you read my column last week, you know that I’ve been working on improving my driving habits this week. I hope you’ve given it some thought, as well.
It has not been easy. It’s so hard not to answer that cell until I find a safe place to pull over.
Once last week, I forgot completely and was chatting away when it hit me. I hurriedly said, “Let me call you right back.” I was almost home, so I waited until I got home to return the call. If you’re like me, it has just become such a habit that sometimes I forget. But I’m working on it.
Also, I’ve been paying more attention to speed limits. I was driving south on U. S. 301 on Tuesday. The speed limit posted was 45 mph. I was in the right lane with my cruise set while people passed me in the left lane like I was sitting still. I found this really surprising since there is a Georgia State Patrol post on that road. Watch those speed limits!
Probably the most disturbing thing that has happened is that I’ve had to slam on brakes—twice—while pulling out of my own driveway. From the rate of speed the approaching cars were traveling when they rounded the curve into my line of vision, I knew they could not avoid me. Had they been traveling at the posted speed, I would have had plenty of time. Pay attention to your speed limit this week—it might save you a ticket, an accident or your life.
Blog about your driving experiences at www.statesboroherald.com. We would like to hear about what you are doing to be a safer driver, too.

Income taxes

Have you filed your taxes yet? If not, you have a two-day reprieve. Because April 15 falls on a Sunday this year, you have until Tuesday to get it done.

Downtown was the hot topic in the blogs this week. Go online and post your two-cents worth. Would you like to see more activity downtown? Maybe a Farmers’ Market? Weigh in on your page—the Community Page—at www.statesboroherald.com.

Real estate guide

We have a new real estate guide coming soon! I just couldn’t resist telling you about it. It’s fantastic! I’ll just tell you one little thing—you’ll be able to do a 360 degree “tour” of the properties from your chair! I’ll keep you updated on the progress.

Kidsville

Truman came all the way from Kidsville to Statesboro to attend Georgia Southern’s ArtsFest ‘07 yesterday. As always, he had a great time. He loves visiting his Statesboro buddies. Don’t forget about the “Draw Truman” contest this month. Kids can win a visit from Truman for their classrooms. See page 20 in the April Kidsville News for more information.
Make it a great (and safe) week!
