Community Review by Pat Homer
Good news for our readers

School began in our public schools on Wednesday. I hope everyone started the year in a good way. Everyone involved with educating our children deserves a big pat on the back for meeting the challenges in education today. The new construction has presented some unique challenges, but parents, students and educators came through with flying colors.
Web Site Tip
Recently, I learned something new about our Web site that I want to share with you. When you are viewing our news stories, you can make the text bigger if you’re having difficulty reading the story. Here’s how to do it: Look at the title in the light blue block. Beside the title you will see “Change Story Text Size [-] [+].” You can make the text larger by clicking on the [+] or smaller by clicking on the [-].
Football Fever
Football Fever has infected our Web site! Sponsors snatched up the opportunity to present this totally fun contest for our community. Set up your account and start studying those stats.  To access the contest from the homepage, click on Pigskin Pickem on the far right of the light blue bar at the top of the page. Click on “Sign Me Up.” Complete all the information and click “Submit.” Now, you’re ready to get started.
Have a group of friends you would like to play along with? You can do it! Once you’ve created your account and logged in, click on “My Private Groups” link in the upper left. Toward the bottom, click on a link that says “Create a Private Group.” You’ll be asked to enter a group name, a password and to confirm your password. The next page allows you to enter the e-mail addresses for friends, co-workers or anyone you would like to play along with. An e-mail will be sent to your friends with instructions on how to join your group. There’s even a “Trash Talk” message board where you can post messages for members in your group — what could be better?
Prizes! Prizes make the contest even better. The best football picker for the week will win a $50 gift certificate. Following is a list of weekly sponsors: Locos Grill & Pub, The University Store, Gray’s College Bookstore, University Tire, Chick-fil-A, Ocean Galley, Metter Ford, Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits, Ivory Tower Tattoo Studios, Quiznos Sub, Shoney’s, The Book & Cranny and The Heritage Bank. In addition to reverence and fame, the best football picker for the entire contest will receive (drum roll, please) a Private Dinner Party for 10 people valued at $500 presented by Meinhardt Vineyards.
