John Ray

Tonight we honor another husband and wife team - John and Martha Ray. Both John and Martha are exceptionally committed members of States-boro's First United Methodist Church and both are heavily involved in their church's mission program, with John serving as chairman of Missions. By the time John and Martha go to Mexico in August, it will mark John's fourth mission trip and Martha's third. Upon retirement from Appalachian State University, the Rays settled in Savannah, where John became active with the Second Harvest program. Since moving to Statesboro, he has continued his work with Second Harvest, the Food Bank as well as serving meals at the Boys and Girls Club. Martha was instrumental in bringing the Alzheimer's Association to Savannah for which she received the Jefferson Award. Upon returning to Statesboro, Martha has been a driving force for the Alzheimer's Association, and it is largely through her efforts that we have the Alzheimer's Walk, the Caring Closet and a monthly Alzheim-er's support group that meets at First Methodist. Martha is also active in the Pilot Club, Altrusa, DAR and has been a core leader for Community Bible Study, where she is currently the children's director.
