The annual Christmas tree lighting was held Wednesday night in Brooklet, marking the start of the holiday season in the small community.

The occasion is marked by lots of festive fun, including a visit from Santa Claus. Performances by local entertainers set the tone for the evening. Local schools and churches provided choral, instrumental and dance performances. Performers included Southern Dance Academy, the Nevils Elementary School choir and the Southeast Bulloch High School advanced choir.

The event also featured blessings and a recitation of the Christmas story from local clergy.
