Statesboro Herald photographer Scott Bryant won nine awards, including three first places, in the 2011 Georgia Press Association Better Newspaper Contest.
    In the News Photo category, his shot of a daughter running into the arms of her father returning from Afghanistan won third place.
    His photo of a T-ball practice showing a coach giving a
lesson with some dramatic shadows earned first in the Sports Feature division.
    Bryant’s photo of a girl bursting a really large bubble earned second in the Feature Photograph category.
    His shot of a Georgia Southern player going upside down to score a touchdown earned second in Sports Action.
    Bryant won first place in the Photo Essay category for a series of photos from a wood basket-making class at the Averitt Center.
    His photo slide retrospective of 2010 won first place in the Best Photo Gallery on a Newspaper Web site category.
    He also earned second place in the following categories: Spot News and Photo Essay. He won third place for Best Photo Gallery on a Newspaper Web site.
