Statesboro Herald photographer Scott Bryant won nine awards, including three first places, in the 2011 Georgia Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. In the News Photo category, his shot of a daughter running into the arms of her father returning from Afghanistan won third place. His photo of a T-ball practice showing a coach giving a lesson with some dramatic shadows earned first in the Sports Feature division.
