Two-time Dove nominees will bring traditional mountain sounds to Statesboro
    The award winning Marksmen Quartet will bring their unique style of gospel music Bible Baptist Church, 889 GA Hwy 24, on Friday, Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. A love offering will be received. For more information, (912) 764-5615.
    The group is in its third week of performing since thieves stole their travel vehicle, instruments, costumes and other equipment while they stayed overnight in Florence, S.C.
    “We are not letting recent events change how we share the ministry we have for so many years,” said Mark Wheeler, lead singer. “We are hopeful the Lord will use this experience as an opportunity for His work.”
    The Marksmen were nominated for its second Dove Award for “Blue Ridge Mountain Memories,” a CD from Rural Rhythm.
    The Four-time Contemporary Bluegrass Gospel Group of the Year and four-time Country Gospel Quartet of the Year winners from the Country Gospel Music Guild will perform many of their hits songs including “He Is I Am,” “Meet Me In Heaven,” “Potter’s Wheel,” “Preach the Cross” and “Grandpa Was a Farmer.”
    The will also share material from both of their Dove nominated CD’s “God’s Masterpiece” and “Blue Ridge Mountain Memories.” They were nominated as 2011 Gospel Group of theYear by the Society for Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America.
    “Each time we walk on stage I am reminded why we do what we do, all the miles of travel, time away from family,” said Earle Wheeler, group leader. “For more than forty years, it has been seeing the troubles in life lifted from the faces of the audience as God’s story is shared through the music and song. We are here to do that — tell the story so others may live through Him.”
    After and more than 40 albums, winning four times as Gospel Bluegrass Band of the Year from SPBGMA, the group
continues its legendary musical legacy with Earle Wheeler, Mark Wheeler, Darrin Chambers, Davey Waller and Mark Autry.
    The Marksmen Quartet is an inductee of the Lone Star State Country Music Association Gospel Music Hall of Fame and the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame.
