Dufek leads Jays to win over UGA
GEORGIA COLOR

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Jonas Dufek threw a five-hitter and Scott Thornburg and Anthony Bemboom had consecutive RBI singles in the seventh inning in Creighton's 2-1 victory over Georgia on Friday in the opening game of the NCAA Corvallis Regional.
Dufek (12-1) struck out 10 and walked one in the game that took 1 hour, 46 minutes to complete.
"Early on I was leaving quite a few of my pitches up," Dufek said. "I put some balls in play, but my defense was behind me early. I was able to settle down and strike a few more guys out."
He retired the Bulldogs in order in the eighth and ninth innings, with no ball leaving the infield.
"Jonas did a tremendous job in throwing a lot of strikes. He had all four pitches working," Bluejays coach Ed Servais said. "I couldn't be more proud of how he responded and how the team responded when it got down 1-0."
On Saturday, Creighton (45-14) will face the winner of the game between Oregon State and Arkansas-Little Rock. Georgia (31-31) will play the loser in the four-team, double-elimination regional.
Jonathan Hester had an RBI double for Georgia in the seventh. Dufek got out of the inning with a strikeout and a groundout.
"They made all the pitches. They answered us," Georgia coach Dave Perno said. "They hit the ball on the ground. We hit popouts and punchouts."
