SEB goes for first win
SEB

BROOKLET — Two weeks into the regular season, the Southeast Bulloch Yellow Jackets are looking for one big thing  — consistency.
Through two games against top-level competition, SEB has struggled to find that consistency. In their first game against Pierce County, for example, the Yellow Jackets were flagged for two penalties. Last week facing South Effingham, they had seven.
In week one, SEB ran for more than 350 yards on the ground. Week two saw that total drop to 123.
The Yellow Jackets (0-2) will look to eliminate their mistakes and execute more efficiently tonight as they take on Bryan County (0-2) as both teams look to get their first win of the season.
Adding to the challenge of consistency is the fact Bulloch County schools, including SEB, were out on Monday for Labor Day and Tuesday for a teacher in-service day, taking the team out of their regular routine for a week.
Bryan County, meanwhile, has struggled offensively in their two games, scoring only seven total points so far this season in games against Claxton and Metter.
Defensively, however, Bryan County has played well, holding each of their opponents to 16 points or fewer so far this year.
The Yellow Jackets are expected to again rely on their solid running game led so far by Chase Walker and Michael Davis. The duo ran for 118 of the team’s 123 yards last week. Walker, at fullback, gets the bulk of the carries up the middle while Davis provides a change of pace and has the speed to get to the edge.
On defense, the Yellow Jackets have faced two high-powered offenses so far, giving up an average of 38.5 points a game so far. That needs to be placed in context, however, as they’ve faced the ninth-ranked team in AAA, Pierce County, who has scored 40 points per game this season, and South Effingham, a AAAAA school, compared to the AAA for SEB, that has averaged 39.5 points per contest.
Last year Bryan County squeaked by SEB by a field goal, 10-7.
Kickoff is set for 7:30 at Fred Shaver field and the game will be live-streamed on the Statesboro Herald website with coverage beginning at 7:20 p.m.

What to Watch For
Southeast Bulloch’s offensive line couldn't move South Effingham last week. They must create holes for their explosive running game.
Will SEB’s defense be able to shut down a Bryan County offense that hasn’t been able to get on track this season?
Turnovers and field position are always vital. The team that wins those battles will likely win the game.
