A nip-and-tuck Region 3-AAAA semifinal got a rude interruption from Mother Nature as lightning and rain postponed Tuesday's game between Statesboro and Wayne County at Mill Creek Regional Park.
The game was tied at 1-1 with the Blue Devils batting in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Since five full innings were not completed, the game could not be suspended and picked up at a later time.
Instead, the two teams will square off again — beginning in the top of the first inning — today at 6 p.m.
Today's winner will advance to play Cross Creek in Augusta Friday for the region championship and a No. 1 seed in the Class AAAA state playoffs.
South Effingham awaits today's loser in a consolation game to determine the third and fourth state seeds.
