Statesboro High School hosted a track and field meet Friday, defeating Jenkins, Claxton and Appling County high schools in a meet shortened by severe weather. The field events and girls 400-meter relay were completed before the weather forced the event to end.
First-place finishers for Statesboro were Rahkym Thomas-McCray, discus, 130 feet, 1inch; Shanikwa Buie, discus, 101 feet, 2 inches; Jimmy Harris, 3200-meter run, 10:50 seconds; Elizabeth Henderson, 3200-meter run,14:24; Freddie Burden, shot put, 47 feet, 9 inches; Buie, shot put, 35 feet, 4 inches; Alisia Jenkins, triple jump, 36 feet, 2 inches; Courtney Reese, long jump, 20 feet, 4.50 inches; Jenkins, long jump, 16 feet, 4 inches; Zaquavian Smith, high jump, 6 feet; Keiyonna Gusby, high jump, 4 feet, 8 inches; Amber Connely, pole vault, 7 feet; girls 4x100-meter relay, 50.2 (Kierra Nixon, Genevieve Okafor, Shanice Walker and Jenkins).
Statesboro will participate in the Swamp Relays today, and in the Burke County Dual Meet on Tuesday in Waynesboro.
Lady Gators defeat First Presbyterian
The Bulloch Academy Lady Gators soccer team defeated First Presbyterian, 9-1, on Friday.
For BA (4-2, 1-1), Haley Burke scored three goals, Ashley Burke and Cate Williams each scored goals, and Allison Anderson and Annsley Lomax each scored one goal.
Assists were made by Haley Burke, Williams, Anderson, Lindsey Brannen, Patum Blitch and Claire Hiller.
BA goalkeeper Keeper Page Spence had five saves.
The Lady Gators will host Augusta Prep on Tuesday.
BA boys beat Trinity
DUBLIN — John Paul Padilla scored three goals to lead Bulloch Academy to a 5-2 victory over Trinity Christian School on Thursday.
Themba Twala added another goal and the final score was an on-goal in the Gators’ Region 4-AAA opener.
Bulloch (4-2 overall, 1-0 in region play) will host Augusta Prep on Tuesday. The Lady Gators (4-2, 1-1) will face the region foes at 5 p.m., while the boys will play at 7 p.m.
BA nips Memorial
PORT WENTWORTH — Bulloch Academy held on for a 12-9 victory over Memorial Day School on Thursday in varsity baseball action.
BA's Hunter Jacobs pitched six innings for the win and Joshua Bishop came on in relief for the save.
Chris Young went 3-for-5 to lead the Gators' offense. Smith Reeves was 2-for-2 with two walks, and Erik Renew as 2-for-3 with two walks.
Bulloch improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in GISA Region 4-AAA play.
BA tennis splits with WMS
The Bulloch Academy girls tennis team downed Westminster of Augusta, 4-1, on Thursday at the Forest Heights Country Club courts to continue their unbeaten streak.
In singles, Ally Cheshire pounded Anna Grimm, 8-1; Meghan Barber outlasted Lindsey Williamson, 8-5; but Anna Mallard lost to Mallory Walters, 8-4.
In doubles, the duo of McKenzie Webb and Caitlin Barber took an 8-3 win over Katie Stewart Schafer and Haley Meeks, while Claire Hiller and Lyndsey Wasdin beat Carley Rhodan and Brittany Rich, 8-4.
Bulloch Academy's boys lost all five matches.
Screven Co. girls lose to Dublin at soccer
Dublin High School's girls soccer team defeated Screven County, 4-0, on Friday.
The game was scoreless at halftime. In the second half, Dublin scored four goals in a 14-minute span.
Screven County fell to 6-2 overall, 3-2 in region play. Dublin improved to 6-1, 5-0.
Screven County will play at Jefferson County on Tuesday.
Bleckley Co. beats SEB boys at soccer
COCHRAN — Bleckley County scored on a 40-yard free kick 6 minutes into the game and made it stand up for a 1-0 victory over Southeast Bulloch in a Region 3-AA game Friday night.
SEB fell to 4-3 overall and 3-1 in Region 3-AA, while the Royals improved to 5-1, 4-0.
The Yellow Jackets will play at South Effingham at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
A Bleckley County player received a red card 20 minutes into the game, forcing the Royals to play with 10 players for the remainder of the game.
SEB had several goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, as Patrick Chambers and James Jones pressured the goal. The Jackets had several good scoring opportunities in the last 2 minutes but could not get the equalizer.
SEB goalkeeper Riley Dinkins made several good saves to keep the Jackets within a goal.
