Prep roundup: SHS boys beat South Effingham at soccer

    Statesboro High School's boys soccer team beat South Effingham, 3-1, on Tuesday.
    The Blue Devils, who are 2-1 in Region 2B-AAAA, got goals from Owen Hancock, Cody Francis and Degammari Matthews.

SEB girls win track meet, boys finish 2nd
    DUBLIN — Southeast Bulloch High School's girls track and field team won at a four-team meet against Bleckley County, Swainsboro and Dublin, and SEB's boys finished second.
    SEB's Breanna Gates won the 100, 200 and long jump; Nira Byrd won the 400 and triple jump; Philicia Batton won the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles and high jump; Zyeria Lockhart won the shot put and was second in the discus; Gates, Byrd, Katie Nevil and Jasmine Roberts won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays; Bri Wimberly, Mary Flott, Batton and Marissa Stanert were second in the 4x400 relay; Antoine Stephens was second in the 800; Nigel Smith was second in the 300 hurdles and high jump; Charles James was second in the pole vault; Jamal Johnson won the shotput and won the discus.

SEBMS girls win soccer game
    Southeast Bulloch Middle School's girls soccer team defeated Langston Chapel, 4-0, on Tuesday to improve to 3-1.
    Cole Robertson scored two goals, one off a penalty shot.  Emma Britt and Emily Barnard each scored a goal.  Goalkeeper Kat Chase was credited with the shutout. This is the third shutout in a row for the Yellow Jackets, who play at Ebenezer on Friday.

SEBMS boys win pair of soccer games
    Southeast Bulloch Middle School's boys soccer team beat Burke County, 4-1, on Friday. Luis Zul scored two goals, Evan Schlierf had a goal and an assist, and LA Anderson added a goal and two assists.
    SEBMS defeated Langston Chapel, 3-0, on Tuesday. Ethan Sandhagen scored two goals, Andrew Kalaani scored  and Caleb Carter had two assists.  Gage Lightsey and Chris Kalaani shared duties in goal to combine for the shutout.
    SEBMS (3-1 overall, 2-1 region) play at Ebenezer on Friday.

Bulloch Academy sweeps PCA at tennis
    BELLVILLE — Bulloch Academy swept Pinewood Christian in varsity tennis action Tuesday.
    The Lady Gator netters blanked PCA 6-0 while the BA guys nipped the Patriots 3-2 on the strength of their singles players.
    In girls’ singles action, Ally Cheshire beat Ashley Shriver 8-1, Meghan Barber blasted Sarah Hethcox 8-0, Anna Mallard blanked Sara McCorkle 8-0 and Hannah Dasher beat Allison Wommack 6-2. In doubles, the duo of McKenzie Webb and Caitlin Barber defeated Harley Strickland and Courtney Hart (3-2) and the team of Claire Hiller and Lyndsey Wasdin beat Maddy Thompson and Ashton Dasher (8-2).
     In boys’ singles action, Cody Lanier blasted Colby Ambrose 8-0, John Ellis Howell downed Parker Quinlan 8-1 and Robbie O’Sullivan beat Caleb Rush 8-2. The PCA duo of Sam Parks and Heath Waters blanked Griffin Walker and Elliott Propes 8-0 while the team of Will Tatum and Daniel Bell got a default victory.

Screven Co. girls win, boys lose at tennis
    LOUISVILLE — Screven County High School's girls tennis team beat Morgan County, 5-0, in matches Wednesday at Jefferson County High School.
    Screven County (8-1), ranked fourth in the state, got wins from Sophia Evans, 6-3, 6-3; Lovey Sheppard, 6-4, 6-1; Mallorie Boswell, 6-1, 6-1; Haley Mock and Jancy Durrence, 6-2, 6-1; and Pamela Wooten and Kari Lane, 6-3, 6-2.
    Screven County's boys (3-6) lost, 4-1, to Morgan County. Clay Kirkland won, 6-1, 6-0, for the Gamecocks.
