Local Roundup: Smith scores 29, Devils down ECHS

    ALBANY — Zaquavian Smith scored a team-high 29 points as the Statesboro Blue Devils knocked off Early County 84-61 on Saturday at the U-Save-It tournament in Albany.
    Statesboro closes out the tournament on Monday against North Clayton at 7 p.m.
    The Blue Devils overcame a 31-27 halftime deficit with a massive third quarter, out-scoring Early County  28-15, and Smith put on a dunking show in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
    O'Aaron Ware added 15 points for Statesboro, and Alex Simmons added 10 points and five rebounds.

Lady Blue Devils win big
    MACON — Khyasia Rollins recorded a double-double and the Statesboro Lady Blue Devils dominated Hawkinsville 69-22 on Saturday at the Middle Georgia Classic in Macon.
    Rollins scored 12 points and added 10 rebounds.
    Tanice Johnson led SHS with 14 points, and Staysa Everett added 11.
    Statesboro closes tournament play against host Rutland on Monday.

3 Jackets play in Macon showcase
    MACON — Three players from Southeast Bulloch's football team notched one more win in 2013, as punter Cole Carter and defensive linemen Kaelin Jones and Marshall Duke helped the East team defeat the West team 28-21 on Saturday in the 2013 Georgia Sports Alliance East West All-Star game at the Ed DeFore Sports Complex.
    Johnson County's Markel Horne played quarterback and safety for the East team and scored two touchdowns.
