Local Roundup: Lady Gamecocks hold off BCHS
Screven

SYLVANIA — The Screven County Lady Gamecocks trailed by as many as 14 points, but fought back for a 53-50 win Tuesday against Burke County.
The Gamecocks (11-1) were led by Courtney Burns (15 points, nine rebounds) and Bria Lonon (14 points, nine rebounds).
Screven trailed 36-22 in the third quarter, but clawed back. The Gamecocks took the lead when Lonon hit a bucket with 3:15 remaining that capped a 13-0 run and gave SCHS a 42-41 advantage.
The basket also gave Lonon, a senior, her 1,000th-career point.
The boys fell Tuesday against Burke, 80-41. Nigel Campfield led the Gamecocks with 13 points and Josh Lee added 10.
Screven turns around to face Burke County again on Saturday, this time on the road.
The game is a makeup of a cancellation due to a football conflict earlier in the season.
The girls tip off at 5 p.m. and the boys will follow.
