As the prep golf season wears on, one of the most consistent golfers on the links is also one of the youngest.
Although only a freshman, Statesboro’s Sarah Jane Bowers has quickly become a dependable member of the Lady Blue Devils’ rotation.
Despite her age – or lack thereof – Bowers is confident in her ability to contribute, no matter the course or opponent.
“It’s just a lot of hard work,” said Bowers. “I don’t think that I’ve played my best yet. I just go out there every time and trying to improve.”
Bowers has been impressive throughout her last two rounds. Monday, she earned a win in the Devils’ victory over Metter at Willow Lakes Country Club, but her best performance came last week.
Squaring off against Savannah Christian at Forest Heights Country Club, Bowers turned in her best round of the season, firing a 39 to win her match.
“That’s the best that I’ve ever shot in tournament play,” said Bowers. “The best I’ve ever done for nine holes is 37. I think that’s a good goal to work towards throughout the rest of the season.”
