Tuesday night at Mill Creek, Southeast Bulloch’s seasoned veterans spent the entire soccer game attacking the net. But in the end, it was an underclassman who finally got the Lady Yellow Jackets on the scoreboard.
Locked in a scoreless draw against Bleckley County with just minutes to go, Ana Olsen finally put SEB on top, blasting a shot off of her left foot and into the top of the net from 10 yards out. SEB won,1-0.
“As a left midfielder, it’s tough to get a lot of good shots off,” Olsen said. “That’s one of only a few I’ve scored with my left foot.”
The strike came at the perfect time as SEB found no luck elsewhere. With under 10 minutes to play, the Jackets squandered an opportunity on a penalty shot before leading scorer Netanya Suarez narrowly missed on another shot minutes later. When a loose ball bounced right to Olsen, she knew that she had to make her chance count.
“It all happened so fast,” Olsen said. “The ball settled right on my left foot and I just let it go.”
With the regular season now over, Olsen and the Lady Yellow Jackets now move on to the Class AA state playoffs. Next Friday, SEB will host Morgan County.
