The Georgia Southern women’s basketball squad will try to snap a four-game skid today, as it hosts Appalachian State with a 5 p.m. tipoff at Hanner Fieldhouse.
The Lady Eagles (7-11, 2-5 SoCon) hope to bounce back after a valiant performance versus Western Carolina (Monday) that saw GSU rally from a 15-point deficit and regain the lead with under three minutes remaining.  But despite GSU’s late efforts, including Ashley Melson’s 13 second-half points, the Lady Catamounts regained the advantage and held on for the 73-68 victory.  Junior guard Tiffany Brown led all scorers with 19 points, followed by junior forward Chequilla Jessie’s 16 points.  Freshman guard Carolyn Whitney dished out a career-best and game-high seven assists while tallying three steals.
The Mountaineers (8-10, 2-5 SoCon) also look to halt a four game losing streak after recently falling to Wofford, 69-65, in Boone, N.C. Maria Grimes’ career-best 24 points led all scorers, shooting 7-of-14 from the field and a perfect 7-of-7 from the charity stripe.  But with 30 seconds remaining, the Terriers extended their one-point advantage to a four-point lead as the time expired.  Senior forward Jaime Bennett pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds on the night while junior guard Whitney Tossie netted 16 points.

Lady Panthers top Bryan County

Kanesha Eason added six points, seven rebounds and four assists for PHS (3-13, 2-5).

Lady Tigers fall short
With the clock reading 0:00 and trailing by two points, the Lady Tigers of Claxton had a chance to tie at the free throw line. Claxton could only make one of two, however, and would fall 43-42 at home to Tattnall County.
Akilah McRae led TCHS in the win with 16 points, while Ashley Kennedy had 14 points and 17 rebounds for Claxton (6-11) in the losing effort. Lacreasha Brewton added 10 points for CHS.
Claxton will hit the road tonight for a region showdown with Portal. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
