    SPARTANBURG, S.C. ­— The Southern Conference on Tuesday announced the dates and sites for each of its 18 championships for the 2012-13 season.
    The league’s championship calendar gets under way Oct. 27, as The Citadel hosts the men’s and women’s cross country championship at Laurel Hill Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
    After first-round matches Oct. 28, the semifinals and championships of women’s soccer will be hosted by Samford in Birmingham, Ala., on Nov. 2 and Nov. 4.
    The men’s soccer championship is moving to a new site, as the WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., will host the semifinals and finals Nov. 8 and Nov. 10. First-round matches will be hosted by the higher seeds the previous weekend.
    The final fall championship is volleyball, which will be hosted in 2012 by Davidson at Belk Arena on Nov. 17-19.
    The winter sports championships begin Feb. 23-24 at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C., as all of the league’s track and field programs will convene for the indoor championship.
    Two weekends after indoor track, the men’s and women’s basketball championships will return to Asheville, N.C., following a highly-successful event in 2012. The women’s first- round and quarterfinal games will be played at Kimmel Arena on March 8-9, while the semifinals and championship will be hosted at the US Cellular Center on March 10-11. The entire men’s tournament runs March 8-11 at the US Cellular Center.
    The SoCon’s eight wrestling programs will descend on Lexington, Va., for the 2013 championship, as VMI hosts the meet for the 20th time dating to the inaugural event in 1930.
    The sites of the men’s and women’s golf championships remain unchanged from 2012. The women will tee it up on the North Course of the Moss Creek Golf Club on Hilton Head Island, S.C., from April 14-16. A week later, the league’s 11 men’s golf teams will compete at the Ralston Creek Course at the Daniel Island Club in Charleston, S.C., from April 21-23.
    Elon is slated to host the men’s and women’s tennis tournaments April 18-21, while Georgia Southern is the site of the men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships April 20-21.
    The UNC Greensboro Softball Stadium in Greensboro, N.C., will host the SoCon’s nine softball teams May 8-11, while the top eight baseball teams return to Greenville, S.C., and Fluor Field for the 2013 baseball championship.
    The SoCon sponsors 19 sports for its 12 member institutions and holds a championship event for each sport aside from football, which participates in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs immediately following the regular season.
