Georgia Southern roundup: Ferguson gets SoCon tourney honor

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — Georgia Southern sophomore Eric Ferguson was named to the Southern Conference All-Tournament Second Team on Monday night.
    Ferguson, a Statesboro native, averaged 23.5 points per game in last weekend's SoCon Tournament.
    He scored 26 points in the Eagles' victory over Chattanooga on Friday night. It was the most points scored by any player in this year's league tournament. Saturday night, Ferguson scored 21 points in a loss to Elon.
    Ferguson is GSU's first All-SoCon Tournament team honoree since Elton Nesbitt was named Second Team in 2004.

GSU women's tennis team falls to Camels
    Georgia Southern's women’s tennis team was unable to extend its winning streak to three matches Tuesday, falling, 6-1, to Campbell University at Hanner Tennis Complex.
    The Eagles (4-5) return to conference play when they hit the road for the weekend and travel to Samford and Chattanooga. Play is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in Birmingham and at noon Sunday in Chattanooga.

GSU men's tennis at Hanner today
    Georgia Southern's men’s tennis team (1-9) will look to even its conference record at 1-1 when it plays Davidson at 3 p.m. today at Hanner Tennis Complex.

GSU golf team finishes 16th
    AIKEN, S.C. — Georgia Southern's golf team finished 16th on Tuesday in the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Invitational. The Eagles shot 907, landing them at plus 67 for the 54-hole tournament. Clemson shot 854, plus 14, to take home first place. The Tigers shot 283 in the last round to overtake South Carolina and Virginia, who tied for first after day one.
    Lewis Gruber led the way for GSU, tying for 35th. Gruber shot a 69 in the final round to go 222 for the tournament, plus twelve. After dropping a hole-in-one Monday on hole 16 in the second round, Blake Olson shot a 78 in the final round, putting him at 227 for the tournament, tying for 61st. Scott Wolfes tied for 70th, shooting 229 for the tournament, plus 19. Zach Hartman and Charlie Martin rounded out the scoring for the Eagles. Hartman placed 77th shooting plus 21, and Martin shot plus 28 to tie for 85th.
