Fastbreak: Lady Eagles fall to red-hot UNCG

    GREENSBORO, N.C — UNC Greensboro made nine 3-pointers on the way to shooting 64.3 percent from behind the arc as the Spartans defeated Georgia Southern 80-55 at Fleming Gymnasium Monday night.
    The Lady Eagles were handed their third loss in Southern Conference competition, and now carry a 7-9 overall and 2-3 conference record.
    UNC Greensboro improved to 10-5 overall and 3-2 in league play with the win.
    UNCG’s Jasmine Byrd gave the Lady Eagles problems as she made 8 of 16 attempts from the field, including 6 of 9 from behind the 3-point arc, netting a game-high 25 points.  Brittany Frazier followed with 15 points and four rebounds.
    The Lady Eagles were paced by Tiffany Brown as she netted 15 points on 6 of 13 from the field.  The junior guard pulled down three rebounds.  Chequilla Jessie had another strong outing in the paint, netting 14 points and pulling down seven rebounds, shooting 5 of 14 from the field and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line.  She also blocked two of UNCG’s shots down low.

BA’s JV teams win
    Both junior varisty basketball teams from Bulloch Academy won on Monday, defeating Edmund Burke Academy on the road.    
    The girls improved to 2-1 on the year with a 34-16 win. Lady Gator Sally Marie Hutch led all scorers with 10 points, while Halley Burke chipped in six.
    The boys got a 38-18 victory, with Bradon Walker and Win Lee pacing BA in scoring with eight points each.
