TIFTON, Ga. -- The Rev. Edward Felton Wood, 83, of Tifton, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2024, at his residence.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 12, 2024, in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Michael King and the Rev. Clayton Dowd officiating. Eulogies will be given by Elisha Spradlin, Calvin Leach and Billy Filyaw. The Rev. Wood will be laid to rest at Union Grove Church of God Cemetery.

The family received friends on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.

James Vicktor Jr., Patrick Fambro, Thaddeus Rearden, Ryan Ahradt, Trinnadad Reyes and Jason Spratlin will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be all attending Church of God ministers.

Born July 30, 1941, in Tift County, the Rev. Wood was the son of the late Carl Julian Wood Sr. and Catherine Lucille Ball Wood.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Frances Mercer; one brother, Carl Julian Wood Jr.; and one grandson, Joshua Cantrell.

Before retiring, he served as a bishop in the Church of God and he was a member of Carpenter Road Church of God in Tifton. When serving as a bishop, he pastored many churches in Georgia, Virginia and South Carolina.

The Rev. Wood is survived by his wife of 61 years, Scarlet Virginia Denny Wood of Tifton; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Dewayne Edward Wood of Austin, Texas; and Jason Timothy and Shannon Wood of Jasper; one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Calvin Leach of Clemson, South Carolina; three brothers, Douglas Wood and Steve Wood, both of Tifton; and Julian Wood of Omega; four sisters, Paulette Blanchard of Ocilla, Ruth Wood and Martha King, both of Tifton; and Kathy Ford of Tifton; five grandchildren, Michael Wood, Kelsey Wood, Justin Wood, Lacie Leach and Cayla Leach; and three great-grandchildren, Evan Wood, Autumn Wood and Adaline Wood.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, SW Georgia Regional Office, 2402 Tift Avenue North, Suite 102, Tifton, GA 31794.
