A traffic accident on U.S. 301 South early Tuesday evening took the life of a Statesboro woman, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper First-Class J. B. Hodges.
Dorothy Brown, 54, Ga. 46, was driving northbound on U.S. 301 South when traffic "slowed for an unknown reason," he said. To avoid a rear-end collision with the vehicle in front of her, Brown swerved and lost control, veering into the southbound lanes of traffic, he said.
She entered the path of Tad Lewis, 54, Excelsior Church Road, Metter, who struck her vehicle, Hodges said. Debris from the impact struck a vehicle driven by Margarete Biggers, 55, Collins, shattering her windshield and damaging the rear of her vehicle.
Brown was taken to East Georgia Regional Medical Center by EMS, where she was pronounced dead, he said.
Trooper Marvin Welch investigated the accident, according to reports.
