Statesboro Police hope citizens can provide information about an "unknown" gunman who shot and injured two men Thursday morning at an apartment near Georgia Southern University.
Police also arrested a man on unrelated charges during the investigation at The Avenue at Southern apartment.
As of late Thursday, several questions swirled around during the investigation. The victims were unable to give a description of the man who shot them, and police still had not determined the addresses of the victims or a third man at the apartment who was arrested on drug charges unrelated to the shootings.
Ishmael Daniels, 28, address unavailable, was taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah after the 2:35 a.m. shooting. He is listed in stable condition, said Statesboro Public Safety Director Wendell Turner.
Romeo Mustafia Bartley, 19, whose address is also not immediately available, was treated and released for minor gunshot wounds at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, he said.
Neither of the victims were residents of The Avenue at Southern, where the shootings occurred. "The cause of the incident is unknown and the case remains under investigation," Turner said.
While detectives were working the crime scene, "they found a quantity of marijuana and a stolen firearm" in the apartment, he said.
Kevtice Renzo Welch, 21, address unknown, was charged theft by receiving stolen property, possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
Welch was taken to the Bulloch County Jail to await a bond hearing and other court proceedings, he said.
Turner said he could not divulge additional information about the incident, since it is an ongoing investigation.
However, he said he hopes citizens will offer tips that could lead to the offender's arrest.
"Anyone with any information regarding the shootings is encouraged to contact Det. Tommy Brown at 912-212-2304 or log onto www.crimereports.com and click on "submit a tip," he said.
