Statesboro Police are seeking three men they said robbed a couple of victims early Friday morning.

In an incident that echoes a few similar incidents reported recently, the victims said three black men approached them and robbed them at gunpoint, said Statesboro Police Chief Stan York.

Officers responded to a call around 1:45 a.m. Friday to University Plaza, where two victims told them they were walking from Southern Cove when the robbery occurred.

Advanced Patrol Officer T. Olsen met with the victims, who said "one of the males brandished a pistol and demanded money," York said.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash from the victims,  the three men fled the scene, he said.

The victims described the three as being " short and thin, "and  in their early 20's," he said.

The case was turned over to the Statesboro Police Department detective division, he said. Investigators hope citizens who may know details of the robbery or the identities of the suspects will come forward with the information.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact the Statesboro Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division at 764-1542," York said. "Information that is received is held in strict confidence."

The Statesboro Police Department may also be reached at 764-9911.
