A Claxton man was charged last week with molesting a juvenile boy, according to reports from the Evans County Sheriff’s Department.
Kadeem Vaughn, 18, Firetower Road, was charged with two counts of child molestation, a felony, according to booking reports from the Evans County Jail.
Evans County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Hogue, jail administrator, said the victim was a male under the age of 10. The alleged molestation incidents occurred between Aug. 2010 and June, 2011, he said.
The case was investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, as the Evans County Sheriff’s Department has a small investigative team and sheriff’s officials decided to turn the case over to the GBI, considering the serious nature of the crime, he said.
The reported molestation incidents took place at a residence in Hagan, he said.
Statesboro GBI Special Agent-in-Charge Micah Ward said little details are being released about the case, since it remains under investigation. He said he “errs on the side of caution” because of the sensitive nature of the crimes and to protect the juvenile victim.
While the child was not physically injured, “he was molested,” he said. “That has all kinds of (emotional and mental harm) that goes with it.”
While he could not say whether the victim was related to Vaughn, “they knew each other,” he said.
Vaughn was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 9, around
3 pm. After a preliminary investigation that apparently resulted in sufficient evidence for an arrest. He was taken to the Evans County Jail, where he remained until Thursday morning, when Jewel Mills posted a $10,000 property bond, according to jail records.
Statesboro GBI Special Agent Cyrus Purdiman is heading the investigation, Ward said.
Vaughn’s arrests follows two recent child molestation cases in Bulloch County involving teenage offenders and juvenile victims.
Devonte Taiwan Williams, 17, Anderson Parrish Road, Portal, was charged last week with molesting two juvenile girls who visited his home. In late July, a 13-year-old male was charged with child molestation after allegedly touching a juvenile female relative in an inappropriate manner.
