A teen was arrested Sunday morning after Statesboro police found he was driving a stolen pickup truck, Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said.
At 7:30 a.m., Officer Travis Kreun stopped a pickup truck on Gordon Street in reference to a seat belt violation. The driver was a 16-year-old male with no driver's license who gave a false name, Turner said in a news release issued Monday.
Police contacted the owner of the vehicle and determined it had recently been stolen, and the owner did not know it was missing, police said.
The teen, with an address listed on North Zetterower Avenue, was charged with felony theft by taking of a motor vehicle, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, giving false information, driving while unlicensed, failure to maintain lane and seat belt violation.
