The Statesboro Police Department’s Criminal Investigative Bureau is investigating four vehicle break-ins that occurred in two nights last week at local restaurants.
These incidents appear to have been committed by the same individual or individuals, Public Safety Director Wendell Turner said in a new release issued Monday morning.
Each of the vehicles had a window broken to gain entry, and the suspects took items, such as pocketbooks and bags, in plain view from the passenger area, Turner said.
The Statesboro Police Department strongly encourages everyone not to leave any valuables in a vehicle, and to make sure that all vehicles are locked while they are unoccupied. If valuables must be left in a vehicle, Turner added, it is best that they are not in plain view.
Items of value also might include those that appear to have potential value or that indicate there might be hidden valuables in the vehicle, such as book bags, cases, purses, phone chargers, GPS mounts and retail packaging. Limiting the visibility of these types of items will help reduce the likelihood of becoming a target and victim of a vehicle break-in, Turner said.
