fatal accident

A 5-year-old boy critically injured in a single-vehicle accident Monday morning has died. His mother, Michelle Lynn Lewis, 25, was killed in the crash.
Bulloch County Coroner Jake Futch confirmed Wednesday that Ricky Lewis was pronounced dead just after midnight Wednesday morning at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah.
His sister, Hailey Lewis, 8, survived the crash with minor injuries, according to Georgia State Patrol Trooper First-Class Tyler Rickman.
Michelle Lynn Lewis was driving on Veteran's Memorial Parkway between Fair Road and Brannen Street around 8:26 a.m. Monday when her car left the roadway, entered a median, then struck a ditch at an emergency access road.
Her car then vaulted, or became airborne, and overturned several times, ejecting her, he said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol. No information has been released on what caused the driver to leave the road..
