"To Luke Martin and his editorial of Saturday morning: did he ever stop to think that cartoon characters may have more to say than he realizes?"

"Statesboro Devils, it's time to shake off that tough loss at Ware County. The second season begins. Play like the champions you are. Show that Blue Devil heart. Go, Devils!"

"Democrats and Republicans, our tax dollars will never bring democracy to the Iraqi people. As soon as we repair, they tear down. The answer is re-repair once, then let it be. The strongest will be back in power as soon as we leave, no matter when."

"It's about time Statesboro High football team played a little competition. And you seen what happened when they do."

"This is for the … newcomers to Statesboro or those people who may be thinkin' of makin' this their home. … Please take note of your today's, Saturday Statesboro Herald. It gets to be on page 4, according to my records, of what I'm lookin' at, that the Veterans are even mentioned. Whether the president comes or that Georgia Southern loses, all that stuff's important, but not our veterans."

"Yes, the terrorists are laughing. But they're laughing because everything Bush has done since he took office has helped them to increase in numbers and in strength. And we're supposed to unite behind that kind of leadership? One more thing. Check the Constitution. The president is the commander in chief of the armed forces, not the nation."

"Sure do like these news paved roads in town except for the fact that there's huge potholes that you can't see. It would be nice if they would pretend that President Bush was still here and do some more upgrades on the roads and everything."

"Coach VanGorder, you'd have a … a bigger smile on your face if you would have had Foster in there playin' the entire season."

"Max Burns, it's time to show a little class and dignity. Concede the election. You've lost. The senatorial candidate in Virginia had a very close margin, same as you and John Barrow. Also, the senatorial candidate in Montana. It's time to do the right thing. Quit bein' a crybaby."

"The radio commentators for Georgia Southern football before, during and after the game are just plain terrible. Coaching is terrible. That was a good football team and that coach ruined it this year. He had a good thing goin'. All he had to do was fix the defense. Bring back Nate Hirsch. Bring back his partner — I can't remember the … the ol' fella's name. That was good listenin'. These new guys are terrible."

"I wanted to thank the Bay District Fire Department for responding so quickly to the fire across the street from my home. And thanks also the to forestry division for their help on Saturday night with the fire."

"I repeat my first phone call. I think that ladies with Ph.D.s and men dressed in blue navy suits with red ties should not make military decisions about the Far East, the Middle East or any place in America. I think … let me start over. I think that people dressed in blue sir suits and red ties and ladies with Ph.D.s should stop making military decisions about the Middle East, but men and women in uniform."

"This question's for Statesboro Herald. I was readin' the paper today. I see Southeast Bulloch, Bulloch Academy, Statesboro High Homecoming queens in the paper, picture and all. And I have a question. Why wasn't Portal High School Homecoming queen wasn't in the paper? It would be nice and only fair to print a picture of her in the paper."

"I've had no problem with the Statesboro alcohol ordinances until now. But when you go to the local theater and they're regulating the price of tickets, that seems a bit extreme. According to the sign at the local theater, Mugs and Movies can no longer offer matinee, children or senior tickets for any … theater performances. Everyone entering Mugs and Movies must pay full price. This seems a bit absurd."

"I give up. Irregardless has never been a word, but I understand we Americans have used it so much, Webster recognizes it. But the greatest sin is how so many people say he enjoys notoriety. Notoriety comes from the root word notorious, which means not a good dude."

"Franklin's Restaurant used to advertise that they served the world's worst apple pie. Now the Statesboro Inn can say that they served the world's worst president."

"Please stop printing pictures of children with dead animals. If adults want to get pleasure in killing animals, that is their choice. But to force kids to commit violent acts is just plain sick. And we wonder why there's violence in our schools."

"I hope our city leaders, and in particularly the Alcohol Control Board, reads today's article in the Business section of the paper. It's time to realize the constraints you place on the county and the city and disband."
