on Rocky Ford Road between Highway 25 and Old River Road North is nearing
completion, and the road is expected to reopen on, if not before, schedule,
said Bulloch County engineer Brad Deal.
The Georgia Department of Transportation closed the road early this summer to conduct a total bridge replacement, he said. A routine inspection revealed rusted pilings and other structural damage such as crumbling concrete, he said.
Contractors still have to pave the new bridge and install guard rails. While rains this week delayed work, “We aren’t complaining.” The drought may have helped the construction go a bit faster but the rain is welcome, he said.
The bridge is expected to be finished and the road reopened by Oct. 31.
