Restaurant Inspections

The following are among the food service establishments inspected in July by the Bulloch County Health Department. The department scores on a 100-percentile scale. Kitchens are inspected at least every four months and are required to post their score sheets in public. The score and selected comments from health inspectors are included in each report. All eating establishments are located in Statesboro, except where noted. To view all restaurant scores, visit and select Bulloch County.

July 22

Observed cordless phone sitting next to food prepping area. Keep phone away from food prep area. Observed a cloth sitting out of sanitizer. Keep cloth stored in sanitizer in between uses. Observed wet, clean items stacked one on another. Do not wet stack; space them out for drying. Observed an over-fill of cups improperly stored. Store cups with an adequate amount so the mouthpiece isn't exposed. Observed a broken chair within the office/kitchen area; may be a housing unit for bugs. Ordered for the chair to be discarded. Observed raw meats beside/over vegetables in walk-in cooler. Keep separate to prevent contamination; corrected on-site. Observed scoop handle down in sugar; corrected on-site. Observed incorrect use of time as a public health control. Explained method of time as a public health control to manager. Foods above 41 degrees F were discarded; corrected on-site. Observed knives used to cut raw meat stored on food prep surface with ready-to-eat foods. Observed door on prep cooler not closing properly. Observed water holding in the bottom of prep cooler. Observed food debris in the bottom of prep cooler. Observed debris on floors, marks on walls and ceilings. Clean floors, walls and ceilings. Inspector: Laura Moore.

Cover food items on prep table; observed uncovered chicken in cooler. Organic build-up in ice machine; drain and clean thoroughly. Observed shrimp, beef, chicken at temps above 41 degrees F in coolers; food was immediately discarded. Thermometer was calibrated on-site. Date-mark any potentially-hazardous food items to be discarded within seven days of opening/prepping. Any food items not in original packaging should be labeled with a common name. Observed bags of rice opened; should be tightly sealed or placed in a bulk storage container with tight fitting lid. Need hand-washing signage at hand sinks in kitchen and restrooms. Keep personal food items/drinks separate from food prep and storage areas. Inspector: Clifton.

Bowl noted in hand sink at sushi area. Pot scrubbers in hand sink near cook line. Keep hand sink clear of any items; corrected on-site. Crumbs in bottom of freezer; clean thoroughly. Inspector: Clifton.

July 23

➤ Dairy Queen, 1291 Northside Drive East

Observed employee washing out a rag in the hand-washing sink. Observed cake in the blast chiller uncovered. Corrected on-site; cake was thrown out. Sanitizer bucket used for wet rags was observed to be weak. Corrected on-site; sanitizer bucket was changed out and replaced with fresh sanitizer. Observed food residue in all reach-in coolers at the front line and reach-in freezer by the fryer. Observed personal food items stored in the walk-in cooler with the establishment's food. Corrected on-site; employee foods moved to a container away from the establishment's foods. Inspector: Karen Anderson.

Observed raw chicken stored in box on the floor in walk-in cooler. Observed in-use utensils not stored in sanitizing solution. Observed dishes stacked wet to dry. Observed plates not stored in protective sleeve on counter. Observed soup spoons stored on container with debris. Observed flies in kitchen. Observed crack in back door. Seal openings. ➤ The Clubhouse Family Entertainment Center/Spike's Sports Grill, 2704 Old Register Road

Observed pizza in the walk-in freezer uncovered. Observed foods in the prep top cooler, cooler drawer and reach-in cooler not cold-holding at 41 degrees F or less. Corrected on-site; all foods were discarded and inspector stated they would return in 72 hours to check prep top and reach-in cooler. Observed milk taken out of jug and placed in a pitcher without having a date-mark on it. Observed chicken wings and cooked ground beef not cooling in correct time from 135 degrees F to 70 degrees F without intervention. Corrected on-site; ground beef was thrown out and chicken wings were placed on cookie sheet and spread out to cool. Cutting boards at prep top coolers have deep grooves and are unable to be cleaned and sanitized. Observed an abundance of flies throughout the entire kitchen. Observed fly strip hanging over cart that had pizza pans on it. Inspector: Anderson.

July 24

➤ D's Friendly Diner, 503 Northside Drive East Suite A

Observed a busted egg, several cracked eggs in refrigerator; corrected on-site. Observed several items not in original packaging unlabeled (meats, cheeses) in coolers. Also, these items should be date-marked to be discarded within seven days of opening/prepping. Pancake mix opened, not sealed tightly. Observed wet-stacked dishes in dish wash area. Food encrusted on spice bottles, grease/grime encrustation behind/under equipment. Pull out and clean thoroughly. Crumbs in seals on coolers. Clean thoroughly. Observed coffee in cup with food items on back shelf. Should be in a cup with a lid and straw and in a designated area. Observed keys on same shelf with food items. Keep in designated area.
