Portal High School Hall of Fame seeks nominations
Also open to Willow Hill alumni and honorary members

The Hall of Fame Committee is seeking nominations for regular inductees and honorary members for the Portal High School Hall of Fame.

Nominations are being accepted through Dec. 6 for potential inductees for the 2020 Portal Middle High School Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, slated for Feb. 1 in Portal.

The Hall of Fame recognizes alumni of PMHS or the Willow Hill School who have distinguished themselves in academics, athletics, extracurricular or civic activities and who continue to be positive role models for today’s young people.

Potential candidates for 2020 Hall of Fame induction should be alumni from the Class of 2000 and earlier graduation years. Then, for the 2021 cohort and beyond, regular Hall of Fame nominees should be alumni who graduated at least 10 years earlier.

But nominations are also sought for honorary members. These are teachers, coaches and others who served at either of the two schools and directly influenced the educational or athletic development of children in positive ways.

Factors to consider in nominating someone include good citizenship in high school, high school academic and athletic awards, school or state records and recognitions, accomplishments after high school or college, contributions to the community and leadership and character, the committee advises.

The Hall of Fame inductee nomination form and a slightly different form for nominating honorary members can be found on the school website, by clicking on “Portal Hall of Fame” under “Resources” at the bottom of the homepage. A news item about the call for nominations appears higher on the page.

The committee’s announcement states that forms must be received by Friday, Dec. 6, for nominees to be considered for 2020 induction. Each nominee or the individual who completed the form will be notified by Dec. 18 if the nominee has been selected.

Completed nomination forms should be returned to PHS Hall of Fame Secretary; Jennifer Yates; 27245 Highway 80 West; Portal, GA 30450, or by emailing

Yates’ email is also the contact point for further info.

Other Hall of Fame Committee members are President Harvey Williams, Vice President Loice Chavers, Julie Blackmar, Luree Bowen, Jeff Brannen, Justin Chester, Tronda Grooms, Tendai Haggins and Jeff Spence.
