A teen and two adults were charged Thursday in connection with reports of two juveniles being raped at a Lydia Lane residence during a May 29 party, said Statesboro Police Commander J. R.Holloway.
A 16-year-old male juvenile was charged with raping two juvenile females, ages 14 and 15. Both adults were charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor, while one was also charged with furnishing alcohol to underage persons, he said.
The adults are not identified to protect the identities of the victims, he said. They were served citations and not jailed for the misdemeanor offenses.
However, the 16-year-old male was charged with two counts of rape, and was taken to the Claxton Regional Youth Detention center to await Superior Court action, Holloway said.
The rapes were reported to have happened during a party at the Lydia Lane residence, near Statesboro High School, May 29.
“During this investigation it was determined that a teenage party was held at the residence,” Holloway said. “A juvenile female, 14 years of age and a juvenile female, 15 years of age, alleged that they were raped” by the teen suspect, whom they knew, during the party, he said.
The case was turned over to the Criminal Investigative Division of the Statesboro Police Department and assigned to Detective Patrick Harrelson.
After investigating the case over the past few days, Harrelson arrested the teen, charging him with the two counts of rape.
