    WEST JONES AVENUE — A man told police around
5 p.m. Saturday that his sister cashed his Social Security check but did not give him the $400 cash.
    ELKS LODGE — (James Street) A man was arrested around 12:15 a.m. Saturday after he punched a woman in the eye during an argument.
    SOUTHERN DOWNS APARTMENTS — Police were dispatched around 1 p.m. Sunday to reports of a small child wandering in the street. Upon arrival the child had gone back inside, the witness said, but police notified social workers because there had been other similar reports in the area.
    BELK — Two men were arrested around 2:30 p.m. Friday for shoplifting a $20 hat and two pairs of Nike socks worth $32.

Incidents
    DOLLAR GENERAL — (U.S. Highway 301 South) Three women and a man shoplifted several items by placing them in pants pockets or purses around 2:15 p.m. Friday. The clerk confronted one woman, who left the store, then returned with the handbag the clerk saw her use for shoplifting. She showed the clerk the bag, which by then contained no stolen merchandise. The suspects left the scene in a light brown, early ’90s model Chevrolet Blazer. The woman who was confronted later called the company to complain about being accused of shoplifting.

    Troopers investigated 16 crashes with one fatality and seven injuries; issued four seat belt citations, 22 speeding citations, and 37 total citations; and issued a seat belt warning, 50 speeding warnings and 104 total warnings.
