Park Place rape suspect arrested in New Orleans
Extradited to Bulloch to face charges
Javier Lucas-Bello

United States marshals captured a man wanted by Statesboro police in connection to the rape of a teenage girl in May at an apartment complex off Lanier Drive.

Javier Lucas-Bello, 36, Park Place Apartments, was located in New Orleans, said Statesboro Police Capt. James Winskey.

Lucas-Bello is suspected in the assault against a 14-year-old girl, which was reported by the girl’s mother in late May at her Park Place Apartment home.

He reportedly fled after the incident. However, since he had keys to the victim’s apartment, the mother’s landlord was called to change the locks as a precaution for the victim’s safety.

Police released no information about the suspect at the time of the investigation, but Winskey confirmed Tuesday Lucas-Bello was arrested in connection with the case, charged with aggravated child molestation and rape.

Lucas-Bello was extradited from Louisiana to the Bulloch County Jail, where he remains without bond as he awaits further court appearances, Winskey said.
