Ogeechee Tech hosts Grillin in the Grove

Ogeechee Technical College will host the fourth annual Grillin’ in the Grove grilling competition and steak dinner Saturday. Proceeds will benefit the American Diabetes Association.

The event begins at 2 p.m. in the Ogeechee Tech pecan grove.

Several teams will compete to see who has the best grilling skills in the area. Each team will grill two steaks, choosing one to send to the judges. One team will win the grand prize, $300.

The afternoon will be filled with the mouth-watering smells of steak; musical entertainment by Ogeechee Tech commercial truck driving instructor Ken Lynch and his band, Deep Cuts; and entertainment for the kids. A raffle will be held for a Stoeger P-350 12-gauge shotgun, provided by TC Outdoors of Statesboro.

Steak dinners will be ready for pickup at 5 p.m. Grilling winners and the raffle winner will be announced at 6 p.m.

Ogeechee Tech has been raising money for the American Diabetes Association for years with events such as the Wing Fling, auctions and Boston butt sales. Last year’s Grillin’ in the Grove event raised more than $4,000 for the association.

This year’s event sponsors are Ogeechee Technical College, Crider Poultry, Bi-Lo, Heritage Bank of the South, Farmers & Merchants Bank, TC Outdoors, Whitfield Signs, Mal-Ad Promotions, Ryan’s, Uncle Shug’s, Applebee’s, Coca-Cola, Sonic and Brown Implement and Milling Inc.
