Nominations are sought for Deen Day Smith Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2012 Deen Day Smith Service to Mankind awards.
The 24th annual invitation-only gala will be held April 10 at Georgia Southern University’s Nessmith-Lane Building.
Nominations should be of persons who have dedicated a portion of their lives to help others. Nominees would reflect a spirit of giving and compassion and would have made a differences in the lives of the less fortunate; would have gone out of their way to give of their time, effort and otherwise to charitable causes, and been an asset and blessing to those need.
Named for renowned humanitarian Deen Day Smith Sanders, the annual event is noted for its butterfly theme.   Sanders, a butterfly aficionado, opened a butterfly center at Callaway Gardens.
Historically, Deen Day Service to Mankind recipients have been benevolent persons who place others before themselves and perform acts of kindness for the sake of the recipient and not for personal gain.
Hundreds of Bulloch County citizens have been honored for their service to others in the past.
The speaker for the banquet will be announced at a later date.
