Families and individuals can join the Statesboro Family YMCA during this, its grand-opening weekend, with no joining fee, and this does not require a commitment of annual dues. Saturday’s grand-opening activities begin at 10 a.m.
An annual commitment was required for a no-joining-fee charter membership offered earlier. In a brief Friday, a reporter incorrectly interpreted this to still be the case with this weekend’s deal.
But charter memberships are now sold out, and what are available, with the sign-up fee waived through this weekend, are regular memberships. Dues for these can always be paid monthly, said YMCA of Coastal Georgia spokeswoman Hillary Bradbury.
For a family with two adults and all their children through age 22, the monthly fee is $49. An individual membership for a teenager, ages 12-18, costs $18 monthly.
Statesboro Family Y, 409 Clairborne Ave, hosts its ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, followed by Trunk-or-Treat 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and a community cookout, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Facility tours, fitness demos and yard games will be available 10 a.m.-5p.m.
