Mornings unPHILtered - Sports guys talk about GSU Eagles

It was “GSU sports” day Thursday on “Mornings unPHILtered.” Host Phil Boyum's guests were Statesboro Herald’s sports editor, Matt 'Skipper' Yogus, and chief videographer, Vince Johnson.
On every Boro sports fans' mind has been the performance of the Georgia Southern Eagles football team so far. Yogus wrote a column in Tuesday's paper that's still available at statesboroherald.com about the uneven early season performance of GSU.
Saturday's game will pit GSU against Wofford in Spartanburg. After a surprising 38-9 loss to Chattanooga last weekend, the Terriers fell to 1-3. It will be Homecoming at Gibbs Stadium for Wofford on Saturday. The Terriers beat Georgia Southern last year  38-37 in overtime at Paulson Stadium.
Boyum read part of a recent Statesboro Herald “Soundoff” column, where criticisms were made of Yogus's column, in which he stated a 2-2 team like GSU might still make the FCS playoffs. Yogus shared that other teams that have started off similarly have still ended up in national title game. Yogus commented that despite fan frustration, people shouldn't assume that their team is going to fail.
Boyum asked how long should Coach Chris Hatcher get before being reasonably criticized if his team doesn't win. It was stated that Hatcher came into a really bad situation, and needs to be given until his freshmen become seniors and show, or don't show, that he has the skills necessary to lead the Eagles to championship contention.
Johnson said Coach Chris Hatcher held a meeting Wednesday with the team, and the subject of that meeting will air on his “Eagles Nest” show later today. Johnson said Hatcher was frank with his players about their weaknesses in passing, blocking and rushing and how they must work even harder to improve.
“Mornings unPHILtered” airs live Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on statesboroherald.com and also simulcast on WWNS-AM 1240 on the radio.
