The conversation on Thursday's “Mornings unPHILtered” show centered around the second year of the “Jungle Book Theater Experience” summer camp held at the Averitt Center for the Arts.
Averitt camp instructor J.D. Lane, who will be assisting Camp Director Mical Whitaker, came on to talk about the activities at the camp and to announce the upcoming auditions for the camp. Lane said children of all ages are invited to the auditions for the camp, which will be held today from 1-5 pm and tomorrow from 10-12 noon at the arts center. Lane said the “dry read” auditions are to assign kids roles, but any child who auditions will be a part.
The Jungle Book camp will be held July 12-16 at the Averitt, from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. On the first day of the camp they students will travel to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, South Carolina, where children – lead by Whitaker – will study the behavior of the wild animals they will be playing in the show.
On Saturday, July 17, there will be a theater performance at 7 p.m. of many of the favorite Jungle Book scenes. This performance is open to the public, with general admission costing $5 per person.
The fee for the camp is $100 with a $30 field trip fee for the fieldtrip to the zoo. For more information on this and the many other camps at the Averitt Center, call (912) 212-ARTS (2787) or go online to their website www.averittcenterforthearts.org.
Herald Sports Editor Matt Yogus was also on the program Wednesday to talk about a series of upcoming sports feature stories on the state of the Georgia Southern athletics program.
The six-part series will run in the Herald each Wednesday. The first installment will appear next Wednesday and will be a general overview featuring an interview with GSU Athletic Director Sam Baker.
