Mobile food pantry at Boro mall Saturday

Anyone who is in need of assistance with food need only to visit the mobile food pantry Saturday, May 3, at the Statesboro Mall near Bi-Lo. The hours of the pantry are from noon until 2 p.m.
Thanks to a grant from the Hancock Family Foundation, the Statesboro Food Bank is teaming up with Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia and Bi-Lo Charities to provide area residents with food assistance, said Joe Bill Brannon, food bank volunteer.
Recipients should arrive at noon and fill out a mobile pantry qualifier form in order to receive assistance for their household, said Karen Franklin, spokesman for Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.
Anyone who would like to volunteer to distribute the food should arrive at 10 a.m., she said. Assistance is needed to pack bags and help recipients carry them to their vehicles, she said.
Recipients eligible for the program include the elderly, disabled, low-income, unemployed and others at risk.
“The mobile pantry allows people in need to receive food coming directly from our trucks, supplementing the efforts of local food pantries with limited storage and budgets,” she said.
Brannon said the last mobile pantry served hundreds of families and individuals and 180 volunteers helped distribute the goods.
