Three convenience store robberies early Tuesday morning have Metter police and Bulloch County sheriff’s investigators seeking suspects.

Around 2:15 a.m. Tuesday, Metter police responded to a “glass break alarm” at the Oak Tree Express convenience store on Oaktree Road, said Metter Police Chief Dennis Nelson.

Arriving “mere minutes” after the alarm sounded, officers “discovered that the front door glass had been broken out and entry had been made.”

The suspects, caught on surveillance video, took an “undisclosed amount of currency as well as a cash drawer from the store,” Nelson said.

While Metter investigators were processing the scene, they learned there were two other convenience store break-ins around the same time in Bulloch County, he said.

According to incident reports supplied by Bulloch County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jared Akins, investigators responded to El Cheapo/Zip-In #9 and Clyde’s Market #40, both located at the intersection of Georgia Highway and Interstate 16, where alarms at both stores alerted law enforcement to break-ins.

Sometime around 2:30 a.m., offenders shattered a glass door at El Cheapo. Reports did not list items taken and did not refer to video, but surveillance video at Clyde’s Market, just across the road, shows two black males using a cinderblock to shatter a glass door, reports state.

One suspect has short hair, wore a white T-shirt, red shoes and dark pants, according to reports. He spent about two minutes inside the store, then left and returned with a second man, also with short hair, wearing a black T-shirt, black shoes and black pants, according to reports.

The men tried breaking into the store safe, but were unsuccessful. Video shows the men pulling drawers from the cash register, and one man stumbles and almost falls as he does so.

The men then rummaged through boxes and files of paperwork, reports state, They both wore gloves.

Reports did not list items taken from the stores in Bulloch County.

Nelson said officers in Metter were also notified of two more convenience store burglaries around the same time that occurred in Bryan County off Interstate 16.
